Compromising Safety and Tourism: Virginia Closes Rest Areas

Closing 18 highway rest areas in the Commonwealth of Virginia in July seriously compromised safety for motorists. The closings, resulting from a lack of adequate transportation funding, could also negatively impact tourist revenues that are needed now more than ever.

AAA Mid-Atlantic has been vocal and active on this issue – in the media as well as through a letter-writing campaign to Governor Kaine. Our position is simple: Re-open the rest areas as soon as possible
