Public Affairs

Martha Mitchell Meade joined AAA in 1989 and currently serves as the Manager of Public and Government Affairs for the company’s southern region of nearly 830,000 members in Virginia. A graduate of the University of Richmond, Meade spent the first 22 years of her career in the travel industry with her final role as AAA Mid-Atlantic’s Director of Travel Fulfillment where she oversaw a team of over 30 associates whose annual sales volume was over $34 million. Meade created the company’s first virtual travel agent network in order to maximize member services, associate satisfaction and consolidate inefficiencies. Meade now calls upon her experience travel industry to cover the travel beat for the public affairs team. Under her leadership the Virginia two person public affairs team more than tripled its annual media exposure in its first year and is now called upon over 1,000 times per year by reporters. Meade also works with multiple advocacy groups, police departments, citizen groups, state agencies, medical professionals, etc. to lobby for the safety of the motoring public in Virginia. One of her proudest accomplishments was her work which aided the passage of a law to ban the use of electronic devices by new teen drivers. In addition, in 2009, she was instrumental in the passage of a bill to ban text messaging while driving a motor vehicle in Virginia, making the Commonwealth one of 13 states and the District of Columbia which have taken an aggressive stand on this one form of distracted driving. Meade brings tremendous enthusiasm to the public and government relations’ team and stands ready to assist the press, members and lawmakers alike.
