Street Map Updates

  • Mapping updates can only be procured directly from MagellanGPS.com.
  • There is a fee for mapping updates, typically $100, but a SYC&S discount is available for AAA members.
  • Street map updates are generally released about every 18-24 months. There is typically one, or perhaps two, street map updates produced over a specific model's useful life.
  • New maps do not guarantee that all new roads, addresses, and intersections have been captured. Members can report errors and ommissions in map data directly to NAVTEQ, the originator of our digital street map content.
  • Map updates are mailed in a DVD-ROM format. The update is completed by interfacing your GPS unit with your computer via a USB cable.
  • Street map DVDs will also update the standard (non-AAA) Points of Interest database.


AAA TourBook Updates

  • TourBook updates are produced and provided by AAA. They will update TourBook destinations, Show Your Card & Save partners, Approved Auto Repair locations, AAA Branch Offices and our Campgrounds database.
  • Tourbook updates are available for free during your standard warranty period.
  • AAA updates will be distributed via the internet. You will download a self-extracting zip file to your computer. The update is conducted by interfacing your GPS unit with your computer via a USB cable.
  • TourBook information cannot be added to standard Magellan GPS models.


Firmware (Operational Software) Updates

  • Firmware updates are designed to improve the performance of your GPS unit.
  • They have a variety of purposes that include updating the user interface, smoothing out screen transitions, adding new functionality and fixing glitches.
  • Firmware updates are produced by Magellan. There is no cost.
  • They are located on Magellan's website but may also be distributed by AAA.
  • No set release schedule exists. There may be zero, few or many releases depending on the specific GPS model.
