  • Motor Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15- to 20 year-olds.
  • In 2008, 12 percent of all drivers involved in fatal crashes were between the ages of 15 and 20 years old.
  • In 2008, 37 percent of male drivers 15 to 20 years old involved in fatal crashes were speeding
  • In 2008, 25 percent of young drivers 15 to 20 years old who were killed in crashes had a BAC of 0.08 g/dl or higher
  • During 2008, 346 15- to 20-year old motorcycle operators were killed and an additional 8,000 were injured.

With these alarming facts and statistics, the Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education in effort to reduce teen driving crashes developed the "Student Safety Club." This program developed by the Foundation enables students to direct their talents and energies toward promoting traffic safety in their school and community. It is hoped that the school's participation in the club can play a large part in preventing teen fatalities and injuries. For more information, contact the Safety Services Manager in your area.
