The beginning of the school year is approaching with the fall season, and the Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education and AAA urges motorists to stay alert and be cautious while children are traveling to and from school.
Child Passenger Safety
According to The American Academy of Pediatrics children should face the rear of the vehicle until they are at least 1 year old and weigh at least 20 pounds to decrease the risk of cervical spine injury in the event of a crash.
Bicycle Safety
One of Americans' favorite form of recreation for many years has been riding a bicycle. Unfortunately, too many bicyclists are injured each year, especially children ages 5-14.
Pedestrian Safety
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2006, 4,784 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the United States.
